Pub ban labourer in New Year's bust-up
A LEATHERHEAD labourer who is banned from the town's pubs has been convicted of public order offences.
Lewis Wilde, 26, of Randalls Crescent, is already banned from entering Leatherhead's pubs until December 2013.
On New Year's Eve he entered the Running Horse in Bridge Street without a ticket.
He was asked to leave but became abusive and refused.
He then went into the car park and picked up a bottle and threw it at a member of staff. He missed but the bottle smashed through a window.
He then hit a staff member in the face and ran off.
When police arrived Wilde was identified by witnesses from his Pubwatch photo.
He appeared at court on Wednesday, July 7, where he pleaded guilty to common assault, criminal damage and threatening behaviour.
He was given a 12-month community order, ordered to attend an aggression replacement treatment programme and made to pay £178 compensation and £87 costs.
Speaking after the sentencing PC Jason Woods, a neighbourhood safety officer, said: "This was a particularly nasty incident involving a person already on a Pubwatch ban.
"The actions he took that night were reckless and could have ended in serious injury.
"We have a thriving Pubwatch scheme in north Mole Valley and work closely with the licensees to ensure the pubs are a safe and enjoyable place to be."
