Pullen pinches win for Horley
Combined Counties League Premier Division
Bookham 2
Horley Town 3
HORLEY left it late to secure victory at bottom side Bookham.
Ali Rennie's side were 2-0 up after half an hour, but were pegged back until Adam Pullen got a last gasp winner, with the manager by then expecting a draw.
He said: "It was an entertaining match where both teams started out playing attacking football. It was fairly even and I wouldn't have complained if it had been a draw. At 2-2, I was starting to think that Bookham had the momentum."
Changing tactics to deal with the pitch, Horley started with their quickest frontline, and Rennie has nothing but praise for the way the players adapted.
"The pitch was a bit sloppy, so we had Jamie Risebrow and Adam Pullen up front," he said.
"Jamie can only manage a game or two a month for us because of work commitments, which is a shame, because he is a player who always looks like he will score.
"Our captain, centre-back Danny Guscott, was also excellent."
The hosts began brightly and Horley keeper Cupit made a very smart save with his feet.
Horley went close on 10 minutes when a curling shot from Eldred just went wide of the right post.
Eldred, played in on the left by Luke Ragetti, then put a crisp left-foot strike inches wide.
On 20 minutes a Bookham corner was only partially cleared, the ball dropped to a striker 25 yards out. He hit a stunning volley which Cupit brilliantly turned away. Cupit collided with the post in the process and needed treatment.
Following good hold-up play by Pullen, Ragetti picked the ball up 35 yards out and raced past two defenders before rolling the ball into the bottom corner.
On 30 minutes Pullen's headed pass was collected by Jamie Risebrow, who beat his marker and planted a crisp strike into the net.
Bookham scored before the interval, after which, following a Bookham corner, Horley failed to clear. The ball dropped to Moffat six yards out and he levelled.
The winner was well crafted. From Eldred's quick throw Pullen beat his marker and lobbed the keeper to Risebrow, who beat his marker for the simplest finish.
