Schoolchildren left their mark on history last week, as they buried a time-capsule full of items that reminded them of 2010.

At a ceremony last Thursday, pupils from Hillcroft School, Chaldon Road, Caterham, saw their specially selected items planted in the grounds of the newly opened Ladybird pub on Guards Avenue, Caterham.

Sophie Morgan, nine, said: "I put some photographs into the capsule. It will be interesting to open up the capsule in 50 years time and see how we have changed.

"I think we will all be living in flying houses, and getting there in our flying electric cars running on vegetable oil."

Teacher Sophie Burningham said the children were all excited to be part of the project, which is commemorated by a plaque to be attached to the side of the public house.

Pub manager John McKeone said he was delighted the Marstons-run pub, which opened in November, could play a part in bringing the community together, and looking to the future.
