Rail staff in Mole Valley face redundancy
Train station and ticket office staff in Mole Valley face an uncertain future after rail firm South West Trains (SWT) announced plans to slash more jobs.
The rail firm, which serves Dorking, Leatherhead and Ashtead stations, announced today (Wednesday) its proposals to axe 180 jobs.
SWT leases and operates from Bookham, Effingham and Horsley rail stations.
The plans, which are subject to consultation with employees, are in
addition to the 480 job losses announced in January.
Positions at risk include revenue protection roles, ticket office and
station staff as well as management and administrative posts.
SWT said drivers, guards and frontline fleet maintenance staff will not be affected
by the proposed changes.
It said it was continuing to operate the same number of train services for its passengers.
However the firm has not ruled out any further staff job losses.
An SWT spokesman said: "The company will continue to review its operation and take any further
steps required to ensure it has a secure business for the long term.
"Our priority will remain maintaining services to our customers, protecting
jobs for the majority of our people and providing a strong foundation for
growth when the economy improves."
