Surrey Championship Division Three

Old Rutlishians 239-8

Warlingham 148-3

Three rain breaks destroyed any real chance of a positive result in this match at Old Rutlishians Sports Club, but Warlingham batted well enough in the 26 overs that the weather allowed to earn the winning draw.

Old Ruts skipper, Saleem Mohammed, was their main scorer with 96 which took the Old Boys to 151-2 shortly before the first rain break which cost nine overs.

Tea was taken and when play resumed the Warlingham bowlers struggled with the wet ball and constant drizzle as Sonny Cooper raced to 51 from only 28 balls to enable the home team to declare on 239-5 after 44 overs leaving Warlingham the balance of 47 overs.

After Field was dismissed without scoring, Shane Patel and Alex Pizzey played with a freedom seldom seen in a Warlingham team this season and added 90 before Greg Read slowed the rate with his accurate, outside off stump line.

He eventually had Pizzey caught for 51 and shortly after the rain interrupted again. This time seven overs were lost and the visitor's target had now gone up to over seven runs per over.

Only nine balls were bowled after the re-start before the players were driven from the field again, although the rain stopped almost immediately.

However, the pitch was damp enough to prevent a restart until only six overs were left. Shane Patel and Hitesh Patel set about the task of scoring the 38 runs required for the winning draw with some extravagant stroke-play and brisk running as it was the home team's bowlers' turn to cope with the wet ball.

The wining draw target was reached in the last over and Shane finished on 72 from 72 balls to continue his rich vein of form.

In their Surrey Championship 2nd XI game Warlingham fell well short against Esher, losing by 104 runs.

Devik Amin took 6-89 for Warlingham but Esher ran up an imposing total of 261-8 in 49.5 overs at Church Lane.

Several batsmen made significant contributions to this total but the highest was Jennings with 55.

In reply, Nishan Naidoo with 45 and Monesh Patel with 50 gave the home side a good start but after they were out no one else could cope with the Esher bowling attack and Warlingham were all out for 168.

It was a much better result for the third team who chased down East Molesy's impressive total of 261-4 to win by two wickets.

Warlingham followed last week's 99 all out with an exciting and successful run chase to beat East Molesey's total.

Trevor Brown made 104 not out for East Molesey, but his innings was in vain as Paul Harrington made 107 to set Warlingham on their way and Rhys Buckley finished off the job with 43 not out.
