St Francis Rangers 1

Redhill 2

THE promotion march goes on for the Lobsters as they closed the gap on league leaders Chichester City to just 10 points with their third win on the bounce.

Two first half goals secured the win for the Reds, and manager Marcus Alcindor admits there is a real believe among the squad that they can reach the Ryman League.

"I think there was a time at the start of the year that I think even people within the club had given up on us," he explained.

"But now we are back winning back-to-back games and with the clubs at the top dropping points, promotion is a real possibility."

And should Redhill achieve their goal, Alcindor does not plan on stopping there.

"I think it's a real shame for teams at the top of the league who haven't applied for promotion. They are up there but there isn't anything to play for. Even if we did achieve promotion to Division One South next season, I'd want us to go for promotion to the Ryman Premier. If you haven't got a target, then you are aimless."

Alcindor was pleased with the win against St Francis Rangers, but believes it wasn't down to the recent Redhill rotation policy.

"Marcus Elliot, Chris Hubbard and Lee Radford have all spent time on the bench and then come on and done excellently, but I think they do well when they start matches as well," he said.

"We have a strong squad and it puts a bit of pressure on the players to perform, but I don't like to use being benched as a baton to beat the players with."

Redhill's goals were scored by Elliot on 10 minutes, who fired a header home from a corner kick by Calvin Headley.

Then Headley struck a free kick from distance on 30 minutes that Rangers 'keeper Simon Lehkyj fumbled into his own net.

Five minutes later, Jamie Weston scored a nicely struck shot into Chris May's bottom left to give the home side hope, however, Redhill held out for the win.

Redhill: May, Nicholas (Morris), Headley, Stagg, Difford, Bonnet, Hubbard (Kyezu), Ofusuhene, Elliot, Sealey (Radford), Dussard. Unused subs: Hogg.
