REDHILL have a score to settle with Croydon, and they intend to do that in emphatic fashion on Saturday when they take on the south Londoners in their first preseason friendly at Kiln Brow on Saturday.

With the pitch recovered from last season, and the players fitter, Redhill are preparing to warm up for their assault on the Sussex County League against a team all too familiar to many of them.

Redhill manager Marcus Alcindor spent many years at Croydon as the youth team coach before taking over the first team in a caretaker capacity, but admits he has no regrets in leaving.

"I've had the chance to go back to Croydon since I left, but I'm enjoying things at Redhill too much," Alcindor stated.

"It should be an interesting match. There will be a lot of familiar faces on both sides; Croydon have a lot of boys in their first team who used to play for me in the youth team, and also Calvin Headley, Darrell Ditchburn and our new striker, Badar Mohammed have all played for Croydon in the past and they will be looking for the win.

"We've spend a lot of money on the pitch in the close season, but now it's done and we're back there and raring to go."

In an unusual set up, after going through a succession of managers, Croydon chairman Dickson Gill decided to appoint himself manager, but with the Trams having lost to Lingfield 2-0 last week, Alcindor is confident he can get one over on his former chairman.

"If Lingfield can beat them 2-0 then we can at least double that," he boasted.

"I'm definitely expecting them to put out a strong side, but I think we can get a good win. Andrew Dalhouse is in brilliant form this pre-season and I can see him getting a couple. He is a totally changed player since coming back here from Lingfield and has been working really hard."

The match is on Tuesday, July 27 (7.45pm). Admission is £3 for adults, £1.50 for concessions, and children under 16 are free with a paying adult.
