Redhill designer who came to UK as refugee to have work exhibited at London Fashion Week
A FASHION designer who fled the civil war in Sierra Leone to come to the UK nine years ago is having her work displayed at London Fashion Week.
Euphemia Davies, who now lives in Fairlawn Drive, Redhill, launched her own fashion label – Sydney-Davies – last year after graduating from Heriot Watt University in Scotland. The mother-of-one, who includes an internship with Alexander McQueen on her CV, is hoping the show will launch her designs into the mainstream.
"I've always been creative," said the 26-year-old designer. "I really got into fashion when I did my A levels. I knew I was going to do something art-related but I didn't know what exactly. I first designed something for my friends. They were in a band and they wanted matching blazers so I got some jackets and did something with them."
Having featured her work in Glasgow and Portsmouth, Euphemia says the London show will be the biggest thing she has done so far and has been busy finalising her collection for the big day on Saturday.

"I found out about London Fashion Week in November," she said. "I'd written to the organisers and I contacted the CEO because I wanted her to wear something of mine. It will be the biggest show in my career".
Euphemia was given the chance to appear at London Fashion Week by Fashions Finest, a company which gives upcoming designers who would not normally be able to participate the chance to do so.
