Reigate petrol station to stay closed until December
A popular petrol station on Reigate Hill is going to remained closed until December following a petrol leak two months ago.
The Esso Reigate Manor service station, which has been closed since the end of June after fuel seeped out of an underground storage tank, will now have its storage tank and pipe work replaced.
A company spokeswoman said: "Investigations confirmed that the leaked petrol did not escape from the site, and that it collected near the tank concerned.
"Following review, we have decided to replace the underground storage tanks and associated pipe work. In the petroleum retailing business tank replacement is a routine activity."
She added: "The tank replacement works are planned to commence in mid October and will continue for approximately seven weeks. "During the work, which will involve the use of an excavator and other equipment, we will endeavour to minimise disruption to our neighbours.
"There will be a construction site manager on site who will be able to handle any queries or questions that may arise.
"We should like to apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause.
The site, including shop will remain closed until the work has been completed."
