Goals flowing: Sean Rivers
Cometh the hour mark, cometh the man. Chipstead completed a hat-trick of wins on the spin in the space of two weeks, thanks to Sean Rivers scoring his 19th goal in as many games after 60 minutes.
His header after a fine build-up helped widen the gap from the bottom two clubs.
It was another strong performance from the High Road side, with Alan Mathews taking man of the match honours.
Rivers, who has 19 goals in 19 games, threatened Chatham early on with a thunderous free kick from 30 yards which Dean Ruddy just managed to flick over his goal.
Keeper James Wastell needed to be alert, diving smartly to his left to prevent a goal from a powerful headed effort from Richard Avery.
Ruddy was brought into the action again smartly tipping over Scott Simpson's near post flick on.
Brendon Cass missed a golden opportunity for the visitors, firing over from six yards out when the ball suddenly dropped to him. Rivers won the game for Chips with a smartly taken headed effort from winger Antony Morrison's cross which followed a fine build-up between Ray Freeman, Morrison and Liam Grier right on the hour mark.
Grier also fired just wide with a long-range effort as Chips tried to kill the game off.
Chatham fought back searching for an equaliser and Wastell had to be at his best saving from Rob Denness and then coming out of goal smartly to block another effort.
Chips maintained some good possession in the closing 10 minutes to earn a well deserved result against their 10th placed visitors.
