Sloppy Bookham get well beaten by Ash
Combined Counties League Premier Division
Ash Utd 4 Bookham 0
BOOKHAM suffered a disappointing defeat against a much improved Ash United to end a run of decent form for glyn Mandeville's side.
They were out thought, outfought, and outplayed for the majority of the game that featured a hat-trick by James Dillon - a young wide player who looks certain to go on to greater things.
He gave the Bookham left back Julian Van Gelder a game he will want to forget despite the fact that Dillon's third goal came after his withdrawal as Bookham moved another player up front with just three at the back.
The scoreline could and should have been worse for Bookham as Ash striker Thompson was guilty of some shocking misses when it seemed easier to score.
From the kick-off Bookham were always looking second best although Carnota and Read in midfield were working hard in winning a share of the second ball, but Bookham's attempts to put the home team under pressure were frustrated by a well drilled back line.
After a couple of close chances Ash opened their account in the 27th minute when Dillon got in behind the unprotected Van Gelder to beat Aburn in the Bookham goal with a low shot.
The lead was doubled 10 minutes later. Dillon got in a great cross leaving Millard the easiest of headed finishes.
With Ollie Dicks having to leave the field injured a return to the side was given to Stuart Padgett who had missed the last two games.
However, after winning a free-kick on the edge of his own area Padgett played a careless pass out of defence straight to the opposition. The ball was played out to Dillon who sealed the win.
Dillon then added to Bookham's woes five minutes later as he completed his hat-trick.
Manager Glyn Mandevile would have been disappointed with the manner of this defeat and will be hoping that this was just a bad day at the office.
Bookham's reserve team came from a goal down to record a good 4-2 win at home to Worcester Park. Scorers were Paul Mears (2) Chris Baker and Martin Smith.
The result leaves Bookham four points behind leaders Croydon with five games in hand.
Bookham: Aburn, Currie, Van Gelder (Gridley), Dicks (Padgett), Hartt, McGregor, Read, Carnota, Woodward, Jarman, Ramsey.
