Snow in Surrey causes travel disruption

AN UNEXPECTED snowfall early this morning has affected transport networks across Surrey.

The snow has stopped falling in most places, leaving coverage ranging from a light dusting in some areas to several centimetres in others.

There are delays many train and bus services, with queues also reported on roads.

Southern trains into Reigate are running about 25 minutes late, with arrivals at Dorking station reportedly 15 to 30 minutes behind schedule.

South West Trains services have been severely disrupted, with the Shepperton to London Waterloo service running almost an hour late while trains from Aldershot to Waterloo via Egham and Staines is 90 minutes behind schedule.

Queues are being reported on roads across the county, and drivers are advised to take extra care and leave extra time to travel.

There are no reports of school closures.

Surrey County Council has more information about transport disruption affecting roads across the county.

The weather forecast for the day shows temperatures rising gradually in Surrey, with the snow expected to have melted by midday.

The Met Office is warning of widespread snow and ice.
