ST JOHN'S School rugby players returned from Australia having won all five matches on their 18-day tour.

There were 27 boys from the Leatherhead school that went on the tour Down Under, the majority of which will be in the Upper Sixth from September.

Based on the performances in Australia, there will be fierce competition for places in the first XV when the season starts.

As well as their success on the rugby pitch the boys enjoyed surfing at Surfers Paradise, snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef and jet boating in Sydney Harbour.

Nick Platt, director of sport at the school, said: "This once in a lifetime tour was a great experience for our boys. "Unbeaten tours are very rare, particularly playing the calibre of schools we did.

"To beat a state side and one of the best rugby schools in Queensland is a phenomenal achievement and augurs well for the upcoming season.

"The boys have returned with some great memories both on and off the pitch."

The match results were:

St John's 20 Victoria Schools 15;

St John's 17 Marist College 12;

St John's 57 All Saints Anglican School 0;

St John's 31 The Cathedral School 17;

St John's 67 Trinity Anglican School 0.
