ASHTEAD go into this weekend's final game of the Surrey Championship knowing a win will see them promoted to the competition's Premier Division.

The Stags are currently third in Division One but face second place Normandy in a winner takes all encounter on Saturday.

The club set up the crunch match with an impressive victory over Dulwich. Batting first Ashtead made 297-4 from their 50 overs before limiting their visitors to just 276. Having been put into bat, the Stags opening pair of Gary Martin and Andy Roberts enjoyed a surface that would prove to be excellent for batting throughout the day.

Despite this Ashtead got off to a reatively slow start, and things did not get any better when Betts removed Roberts (23), who played the ball onto his stumps.

But new batsman James Cameron hit a six off Beeching's first over, and then continuing to find the boundary on a regular basis.

Martin also quickened up and was soon well on his way to 50 when, after 25 overs, the score was 122-1.

Spinner Raza Dar came back on and struck in his first over, Cameron stumped for 23.

Gary Martin reached a glorious century off just 129 balls during the 43rd over.

At the other end Chris Douglas had been making his runs in much the same way, as the pair put on 126.

But then Joshua Stewart enticed Chris Douglas into a top edge that was pounced upon by Balmforth.

Then, in the very next over, Dar found a way through the strong defences of captain Jamie Powell for one.

At 249-4 with five overs left, Neil Farnsworth was sent in to bring the Stags home as he and Martin (132 no) brought the total to 297-4 off the 50.

In reply, Dulwich got off to a flying start but from a strong position at 85-1 slumped to 90-4.

Josh Pickering (1-26) and Tom Deighton (3-50) taking three wickets in three overs between them.

However, the visitors were not beaten and continued to attack until Chris Douglas (4-49) ripped through the lower order.

A late rally from the tail was enough to scare the Stags but the game was won.
