Staines Storm Brings Tree Down - Road Closed
Last night's strong winds caused disruption in Staines today when a huge tree was brought down at Knowle Green.
The tree fell across the Kingston Road at the junction with Gresham Road in the early hours of the morning.
Police closed the road diverting east bound traffic down Gresham Road and west bound traffic up Worple Road while workers spent the day cutting the tree to remove it.
This led to the unusual sight of buses travelling along Commercial Road.

It took most of the day to clear the tree, but the road eventually re-opened in the late afternoon.
The tree came down as a result of wet ground from days of continuous rain followed by strong winds on Saturday night.
But as flood warnings were announced for several rivers around the UK, Staines spent the afternoon under sunshine and blue skies which came as a relief after inches of rain fell in the preceding week. More rain is predicted for later this week, but although some flood alerts have been issued for the area, currently no property is thought to be threatened.
