Step aside Henry, it's all about Andrews
HAT-TRICK hero Greg Andrews jokingly compared himself to Thierry Henry after notching his treble against Chipstead on Monday.
The frontman netted a long range left foot strike and a penalty before beating a defender, drawing the keeper and curling a shot into the back of the net for the third in stoppage time.
He said: "It was very Henry-esque that goal! I saw the pass square, but I flicked it for myself and it just opened up a bit like Henry and I just curled into the far corner.
"I am very happy with that. The thing is with me, I always feel like I'm going to score, but sometimes it doesn't happen, but when I get one I know there's more in me if I get the opportunity and I will get more easily."
Andrews may not have had the opportunity to grab the treble had fellow striker Tommy Hutchings been on the pitch when the penalty was awarded.
He also missed from 12 yards, sending a penalty against Sittingbourne almost "two goals" wide, but there was no taking the ball off him, and there won't be in the future either.
He added: "I don't know if I'd have had the penalty if Tommy had been on the pitch, probably not, but I'd have had it off him.
"That penalty miss last season was a one-off, definitely, I'm penalty taker now, they're not taking them off me until I miss, which isn't going to happen again, not two goals wide anyway.
"I don't know if I get the match ball or not, maybe they'll present it next week, I got one for my last one, but that was at home, so I don't know what the deal is."
The hat-trick has already set Andrews well on the way to his target of 15 goals for the season and after a poor start to the campaign from the Tanners, Andrews hopes the result against Chipstead is a stepping stone for a run of results.
He said: "Everyone knows we're not playing to our capabilities, we've had a long break and I think everyone knew we weren't going to carry on from last year straight away, but we didn't think it was going to be as bad as it has been.
"I'm happy I got my goals and three points was massive today, and hopefully now we can crack on and have another run."
