LEATHERHEAD manager Mick Sullivan is pleased his team face opponents from the same division in the FA Cup preliminary round, to avoid the possibility of complacency.

Leatherhead host fellow Ryman League Division One South team Burgess Hill Town on Saturday in both team's first FA Cup match of the season, but Sullivan is glad he did not draw a team from one or even two leagues lower than the Tanners.

"My first turn of thought is that here are another team at our level when we could have got a Step Five team but there is another way you could look at it that at least we know what we are facing against Burgess Hill," he reasoned.

"There is also the fact that because we are playing someone at our level the boys know it will be a hard game. If we were player a lower league team, no matter how much we told them otherwise, some players might think the match was won before it was played."

Should Leatherhead win they will face VCD Athletic or Eastbourne Town on September 11 in the first round qualifying, but Sullivan admits the Tanners' focus is still promotion to the Ryman Premier.

"The FA Cup is about going through two or three rounds and balancing the books," he said.

"It's more a financial thing. I'm sure we can do okay, you get a bit of luck and a few results and it becomes a whole new ball game; it's as they say 'the magic of the cup'. It's a possibility and before you know it the cup takes on a whole new importance and you start focusing on that.

"The league is still our priority though; a minimum of play offs really and while I always enjoy the cups and like to do well, I don't want the players defocusing on the league."
