The culmination of this season's Surrey Senior Cup competition takes place this Tuesday evening between two of the county's most successful teams, writes James Barrett.

Blue Square Conference South champions Woking, who move up to the Conference Premier division after accumulating 97 points this season, will face Sutton United, who finished a credible fourth place after being promoted from the Ryman Premier League last year.

As his side was chasing promotion Sutton manager Paul Doswell used the competition to give his squad players a run out, but now the final holds more reverence as The Us narrowly lost 2-1 in their play-off semi-final against Welling over two legs.

"We'll go into this game fielding a strong side because, in all honesty, if we'd been in the play-off final I'm not sure what kind of side we could have put out," Doswell told SuttonUnited.net. "We can now hopefully finish the season with a trophy."

Woking have had a week's rest after their league campaign finished with a 3-2 victory at Chelmsford City last Saturday and are unbeaten in their last six.

When the two teams met in the league this season Woking were twice victorious (4-1 at home and 5-0 away) but, in a one-off cup match, history doesn't always hold the key to who will win. However both clubs have past pedigree in the competition with Sutton boasting 15 wins and Woking 10, so it really is set up to be an intriguing encounter.

The Surrey Senior Cup Final takes place at Kingsmeadow, home of Kingstonian and AFC Wimbledon, on Tuesday 8 May (kick off: 7.30pm).

Woking's route to the final:

R2 - Merstham (h) 2-0

R3 - Ash United (a) 3-0

QF - Ashford Town Middx (h) 1-0

SF - Carshalton Athletic (h) 1-0

Sutton's route to the final:

R2 - Epsom & Ewell (a) 1-0

R3 - Godalming Town (h) 6-0

QF - South Park (a) 4-1

SF - Corinthian Casuals (a) 3-1

“So Sutton finished a "credible fourth" did they? Well, I'm glad you believe it.
Did you mean "creditable" by any chance?”
