Surrey legend Ali Brown has signed for Nottinghamshire after 21 years of loyal service at the Brit Oval.

The 38-year-old was released by Surrey at the end of last season and has signed a two year contract with the Outlaws.

Brown, renowned for his attacking style, has played 16 one-day internationals for England and scored 14,957 first-class runs in his career.

He said: "Notts are primed to challenge for the Championship, and I want to hit the ground running and help the team to push for honours.

"For me, the buzz of playing cricket comes from winning competitions - and I feel that I've got two more years to win things at this level. I've always been confident in my ability; I'm feeling fit and I want to play for Notts in all forms of the game."

Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell believes the recruitment of Brown will add depth to his squad - with England likely to call on the services of Samit Patel and Graeme Swann, Ryan Sidebottom and Stuart Broad.

Newell said: "Ali has a lot to offer as a cricketer but he's also an experienced head who will act as a role model to younger players. He's an exciting one-day player at the top of the order and he can play an important role for us."

The former Caterham School pupil enjoyed some remarkable success during his long career at Surrey. His dynamic hitting at the top of the order made him a firm fans favourite.

Among Brown's achievements are a world record 268 from 160 balls in a C&G Trophy match against Glamorgan in 2002 and a record first wicket stand of 294 with James Benning in 2007 against Gloucestershire, in which Brown scored 176 off just 97 balls.

He played in the Surrey team that won the County Championship in 1999, 2000 and 2002 as well the English domestic one day league in 1996 and 2003 and the Benson and Hedges Cup in 1997 and 2001.
