LEATHERHEAD made it five wins out of their last six games with victory over Corinthian Casuals on Tuesday night.

The opening exchanges were fairly even, with neither side really creating any clear cut opportunities.

The visitors delivered a few balls into the home area, but goalkeeper Colin Harris dealt with them comfortably, while at the other end, the Tanners were trying their best to play some football on what was a boggy pitch.

It was clear that a moment of magic was going to win the game and that is just what the crowd got on 29 minutes from the boot of Mark Simmons.

A Marc Elston corner was not dealt with and the ball fell to Iain Hendry, whose cross was deflected into the path of Rob Hill. He scuffed his shot, which was blocked, and the ball popped up for Simmons who coolly and calmly side-footed a volley through a crowd of players and past the despairing dive of Luke Naughton.

Corinthians never really troubled the Tanners in the second half and Elston had a glorious opportunity to wrap up the points in injury time, but he comically fell over the ball when one-on-one with the keeper.

It didn't matter though as the referee's whistle sounded soon after.
