STAFF at Ashtead Hospital have helped raise nearly £4,000 for a children's hospice.

The money was raised by workers at the private hospital in The Warren and staff at North Downs Hospital in Caterham, which is also part of Ramsay Health Care UK.

A cheque for £3,910.67 was presented to Shooting Star Chase after a year of fundraising events including hamper raffles, quiz evenings and a game of rounders.

The hospital's theatre administrator Cathy Davies put forward Chase as the hospitals' charity for 2011.

She said: "I nominated the charity when I became aware of the wonderful work they do for children with limited life-expectancy.

"A friend of mine has a sister who has been helped by the work at the charity, and I have been involved in the past to raise money for them to carry on their work and to help many other families.

"I was so pleased and proud to have been part of raising such a large amount of money for Chase, and I know that it will be put to wonderful use."

The cheque was presented on February 7.
