Hundreds of motorists were caught in rush hour tailbacks Thursday morning due to emergency roadworks.

The A217 in Lower Kingswood was reduced to one lane in some areas as workmen set about repairing cracks in the road.

When the Mirror visited the area this morning - just before 9.30am - two road workers were attempting to fix a collapsed manhole cover in the road.

Traffic jams tailed back to Junction 8 of the M25.
