Travel SMART consultation

Travel SMART is an initiative that is being co-designed with people, for people, and could include improvements to cycle and walking routes, services to help people find jobs and gain skills or help you get around better. Surrey County Council has put in a bid of £20 million to central government's Local Sustainable Transport Fund to put towards Surrey's Travel SMART programme, £3.9m of this funding already secured and with the hope of securing a further £16m, we want to hear from you about what improvements and changes to travel will help you get around. Have your say about how you travel and what improvements could be made in and around Surrey, and read on to find out about what could be happening in your town and how to have your say on these plans. The consultation is open between 2 April and 14 May 2012, so make sure you have your say.

You can also come and speak to them face to face at the following exhibitions in Woking,

Where is Travel SMART happening?

The areas of Guildford, Redhill and Reigate and Woking have been chosen for the Travel SMART programme as a high proportion of the economic activity in Surrey is centred in and around these locations. Whilst these areas are critical to the future economic prosperity of the county, they also correspond with some of the greatest development pressures and the most severe transport problems. We want to hear your views on the measures below that could introduced in these areas via the Travel SMART programme:

Improvements to walking and cycling facilities

Improvements to bus services

Working with businesses to provide travel choice for employees

We will also be enhancing our current offer of bikeability cycle skills training and providing improved travel choices for schools. Click here to find out more about bikeability training and here to find out more about the travel planning work we do with schools.

These initiatives will build on successful existing schemes such as Cycle Woking. The investment from this bid will be combined with funding already secured from public and private sector sources and enhanced by major redevelopments planned in the three towns. Travel SMART will offer a long lasting legacy that will benefit Surrey and the UK as a whole.

So again, don't forget to have your say in Woking!
