Batty sorry to see Butcher go
Jonathan Batty says the players should take responsibility for coach Alan Butcher's sacking.
Brown Cap Batty, who has a benefit year with the county in 2009, feels the team let their manager down during a very disappointing season.
Surrey were relegated from division one in the County Championship without winning a game while finished bottom of their group in the Twenty20 Cup.
And Batty said: "The players feel for him, we feel we've let him down.
"It's up to the players, once you get over the line, to perform.
"We to sort it out, get it right and make we come back next year - and bounce back after just one season in division two."
Batty believes every player in the squad must use the winter to think about their games to be prepared for a promotion push next season.
He added: "We've got to go away, re-assess and work out what went wrong.
"The squad we've got is a very, very good squad and, being realistic, we shouldn't have been relegated with the talent that we have.
"The players are very sorry to see Alan go. He's been a great help, not only to myself, but to all the Surrey cricketers over the last 10 years.
"He's one of the best batting coaches around and it's going to be a sad place with him not around next season."

“I think its right to get rid of Butcher,as a member the last couple of years showed good potential with young players coming through. The fact is none have been allowed to progress following poor decisions on signing ageing overseas players that only want the money.
I think we need a new approach at SCC,so also the other coacing positions should be looked at,and the right people brought in to breath new life into a very rich and underachieving club, that only seems to be looking to make money for the PLC and not for the club.”
