MAX Chilton has signed to drive for one of the leading teams in GP2, the feeder series for Grand Prix.

The teenager, who collected two wins in the British F3 International series last season, steps up after impressing crew chiefs in recent tests.

Ocean Racing Technology, based at the Algarve circuit in Portugal, have a race winning history in GP2 and, with a hugely experienced engineering base, will provide Chilton with a fantastic chance to develop his talent.

Chilton, still only 18, is regarded as one of the most promising drivers of his generation.

He will graduate to the European GP2 Series which supports Formula One Grand Prix events, and is the recognised feeder series to the pinnacle of motorsport.

He will also compete in the remaining races of the GP2 Asia Series in Abu Dhabi and Bahrain in February and March.

There will then be some official testing before the main championship kicks off at the Spanish Grand Prix at Barcelona in May.

"I'm very excited by the team. It's fantastic news for me," said Chilton, from Norwood Hill.

"Ocean Racing Technology is a great team and its approach is very smart. The structure is really professional and the engineering crew gives me a lot of faith in their ability to help me get the best out of myself.

"It is a big step coming from F3, but I'm very motivated. I've tested the European spec car and have raced the Asian Series car, so I know what is needed. I hope to quickly secure some good results and I know Ocean is the team with which I can do that."
