Weybridge Vandals 75

Oxted & Limpsfield 75-1

OXTED continued their push for promotion with this thrashing of Weybridge Vandals.

Skipper Ian Barney had no hesitation in bowling first, and the Oxted bowlers quickly repaid his confidence by dispatching the Vandals for a meagre 75 all out on a pitch that played much better than it looked.

Oxted got off to the perfect start as openers Lee McIllwraith and Dave Paisey dominated from the first ball.

Indeed the first run off the bat didn't come until the sixth over, and by then McIllwraith had claimed his second wicket with a superb late in-swinging yorker.

Paisey (0-18) was unfortunate to end wicket-less.

But MacIllwraith finished his seven over spell with 3-14 as he trapped Fenwick lbw.

If Weybridge hoped for some relief from the Oxted change bowlers, they were soon to be disappointed as Barney and Gordon Boxshall replaced the opening attack.

Barney claimed the fourth wicket on 38, with a good in-swinging delivery. Spinner Boxshall then took control.

His variation bamboozled the remaining Vandals batting, and his spell of 6-11 in seven overs was the best for the team in 2009.

Boxshall finished off the innings to leave the O's with a straightforward run chase.

Adamson and Fletcher, opening for the first time together, looked to be strolling to a commanding 10 wicket victory before Adamson was unluckily lbw for 29, just five short of the target but it made no difference to the result.

OXTED secured their second win of their Surrey Championship 2nd XI Division Five season as they cruised past Godalming.

The O's bowled their hosts out for 123 before chasing the score down for the loss of two wickets.

Bowling first Oxted were soon out of the blocks, inspired by Mike Trim in the field as he first produced a missile like throw to run out the Godalming number two without facing and then took a stunning one handed diving catch at second slip off Will Singleton.

With David Staines bowling an impeccable line and length the O's were making it hard for Godalming to score, and Staines got his reward when he took the next two wickets which left the visitors at 31-4.

From here Godalming rebuilt with the skipper batting sensibly but in the 31st over Nick Emmins had him stumped and an over later Trim took the first of his two wickets.

Jonny Mastin popped up with a wicket too and then the re-introduction of Staines saw him remove the last two batsmen in one over as he finished with fine figures of 4-40 as the visitors were dismissed for 123.

In reply Oxted got a good start as openers Dalziel (36) and Nadeem Durrany (40) put on 79 for the first wicket.

Unfortunately both fell in quick succession but Joe Kourea (32 no) and Neil Ejje (9no) took Oxted comfortable past the winning target.
