GOOD neighbours have been working together to create a more "cohesive Dorking".

Residents from Goodwyns Estate, the Holmwoods, Chart Downs, Scholars Walk and Rough Rew have united to set up community projects – and now they want more people to get involved.

Volunteer Jacqui Johnston said: "We are currently working towards incorporation as a fully constituted not-for-profit organisation to be known as the Friends of King George V Playing Field Dorking.

"We are now planning activities, local environmental improvements and community events, plus extended opening hours for the Easter holidays and summer.

"The idea is to make a more cohesive Dorking, so we are inviting the community to share in the development of ideas and opportunities by attending an open and informal participation event this month.

"It seemed a bit of a shame that the pavilion facilities weren't being used much before and although there's no indoor seating, at least we are enabling local children to extend their time playing outside by providing them with toilet facilities and refreshment for some of the time. We hope more people will join us so we can extend the opening hours."

The open evening will take place on Tuesday at 7pm at the Dorking Rural Sure Start Children's Centre in Goodwyns Road.
