Wanderers smash eight in cup
DORKING Wanderers picked up their fifth win on the spin as they breezed into the third round of the Surrey Intermediate Cup.
Manager Marc White said his side created "40 or 50 chances" but they settled for just an 8-0 demolition of their Aldershot and District League opponents.
Lee Smith played his first 90 minutes for the club for the best part of five weeks and got his name on the scoresheet as well, but the day belonged to Kevin Cooper and Shane Jones, who netted three times.
Jones it was who gave the hosts the lead with a superb curling effort early on.
Cooper bagged his first for his new club and Smith got his goal as Wanderers went into the break 3-0 up.
The second half continued in the same vein for White's side as they dominated, peppering the away goal with shots as Cooper and Jones completed their hat-tricks and an own goal rounded off the scoring.
White said: "It was a really pleasing performance, but they were not going to trouble us.
"We played free-flowing football and created the best part of 40 or 50 chances so we could have easily scored double figures. We've got three top class players up front who look absolutely lethal and the guys at the back are looking strong as well, so we're hoping to go on a run in this cup."
White will be sweating on the fitness of centre back Martin Beard before the league trip to TD Shipley on Saturday.
He said: "Beard had to be taken off after only 10 minutes when he tweaked his hamstring, which is a bit worrying going into the league game this week.
"But Craig Duffel returned from a back injury and we had Kevin Joyce on the bench, which just shows the quality we have got."
Wanderers: Purkiss, Thompson (C Duffel), Milton, Burgess, Beard (Joyce), Passmore, S Duffel, Hillson (Skinner), Jones, Smith, Cooper.
