Wars blame pitch after low scoring defeat
Surrey Championship Division Three
Metropolitan Police 141
Warlingham 99
THE Church Lane pitch, that has been testing for most batsmen so far this year, was made doubly so by the heavy mid week showers; so a low scoring match was always on the cards.
That said, three batsmen mastered the conditions sufficiently to make good scores.
The fact that two of these were from the visitors and only one from Warlingham probably decided the match.
After being put in to bat, Met Police lost two early wickets, but then Nalin Jayasinghe and Jason Dows took the score to 100 before Dows became the first of five victims for Wes Lind when he was caught by Dan Chrystie for 48.
Wickets then fell regularly including that of Jayasinghe who made 49.
Mahesh Amin and Wes Lind bowled 38 overs between them and eventually Met Police were all out for 141 in the 55th over with Lind recording his best figures for the club so far of 5-38. He also effected a spectacular run out, swooping up the ball at extra cover throwing down the wicket from 50 yards.
Dows then continued his all-round performance by taking the first three Warlingham wickets as the home team declined to 41-5 after 21 of a minimum of 49 overs.
Alex Pizzey was then joined by Lind who provided good support in a stand of 40 as Pizzey made the most of the occasional loose ball. He passed 50 in Dan Turner's first over, but Lind was out straight afterwards, and Pizzey himself was out two overs later for a very good 61 in difficult conditions.
Dows and Turner then quickly cleaned up the tail. Dows bowled throughout and took 5-37 from 20.3 overs and Turner took 4-16 in four overs as Warlingham were all out for 99 - with only Pizzey getting into double figures.
