AFTER two and a half years in charge, Dorking manager Tony Webb has called it quits.

Webb stepped down from the post following the 4-0 defeat away at Molesey on Saturday, a game in which he actually played because of the absence of captain and goalkeeper Dan Coote.

"We just need someone else now to take hold of the team and bring in some fresh ideas," he said.

"I don't think I'm the man to do that now."

Webb steered the club to promotion back to the Combined Counties League Premier Division last season, but things have not gone well so far this season, with the side having picked up only two wins in 18 games as they sit fourth from bottom.

Things might have been different had they had a better start to the season, but Webb felt the decision was always coming.

He added: "I have quite a high pressure job and with work commitments and I've had some personal problems as well, I just thought it was the right time.

"In truth I have been in football for a long time now and you know when it's time for a change and it felt like the right time to do that.

"A change would have needed to come at some point, we have only won two games. It's the inconsistency that's disappointed me and to get that sorted it needed a new face. I've been in non-league football for 18 years and you know when things are not going right."
