ANDY Wheeler has given Redhill manager Marcus Alcindor his vote of confident to turn the season around.

Last week Alcindor said if he was the chairman he would sack the manager after Redhill's home defeat to Ringmer, but chairman Wheeler has no such intentions.

"We aren't going to make any changes, we gave Marcus his first managerial job in senior football and we hope it's for the long term," Wheeler insisted.

"Marcus has worked very hard for this club with both on and off field matters, like everyone else he wants to win football matches and really feels it when we don't.

"He has said he wants to win promotion and so he has a job to do."

However Wheeler admits that everyone at Redhill was upset following the defeat to Rye, reds' third defeat on the bounce.

"The fans are very hopeful but we are only four or five games into the season and things can change," he said.

"Marcus was very down in the dumps after Saturday, but I cheered him up. Now the players have got to perform on the pitch.

"One defeat isn't the end of the world. Success can't be guaranteed in football but Marcus has a good chance."

Andrew Dalhouse had an early Redhill effort after cleverly skipping passed three Rye players, but the eventual shot didn't trouble the goalkeeper.

Defender Charlie Stagg continues to put in 100 per cent with an inch perfect tackle on Rye's Liam Upton.

An obvious training ground move then occurred when a corner headed straight to the edge of the box where full-back Paul Tuppenney struck a wonderful volley at Redhill's goal only for the shot to be blocked.

Redhill could have taken the lead following a long range effort fumbled by Dan Foster. Marcus Elliot followed up for the rebound, but Foster saved bravely.

Chris Hubbard then had a shot at goal after keeping hold the ball for a little longer than necessary, with Lee Radford in plenty of space on the left wing. Poor Radford must be wondering why he's on the pitch for the amount of passes that go his way.

Dalhouse had a long effort well saved and then minutes later, he found himself given a yellow card for dissent after he was accused of being off side.

United had a free-kick go at goal but Chris May collected easily, then Dalhouse had another shot, this one going wide after he took the ball on from Radford.

The returning John Difford got a ball in the face when he got in the way of a powerful shot from Upton. Cries of handball were heard, but Difford's nose knew differently.

Rye won another corner, keeper May palmed it away but United's Scott Ramsay latched onto the loose ball and struck wide.

Dalhouse had an early second half shot go wide, but Rye United scored the game's only goal on 55 minutes. The ball came across the box and missed all the bodies in there until it reached Jimmy Watson who hit the ball at the ground only to see it bounce freakishly over the diving May.

Redhill's heads did not drop immediately and they continued to create chances, although the Rye keeper had little to do.

Another wide effort came in from Dalhouse after some good work by Marcus Elliot on the edge of the box.

However, Rye also threatened.Aliy Kyezu played a lovely pass forward for Andrew Dalhouse who then crossed for Kyle Morgan. He attempted to spin his marker but the touch was too heavy.

Rye went down do 10 men late on and the Reds then had further chances. Charles Ofosuhene smashed a good strike and Morgan struck an effort way over after a great Dussard cross and the final chance of the game fell to Dalhouse who hit a screamer inches wide.

Redhill: May, Kyezu, Howell (Dussard), Stagg, Difford, Elliott, Hubbard (Hudson), Ofosuhene, Dalhouse, Bonnet, Radford (Morgan). Unused subs: Dixon-Baker.
