A woman needed to be cut out of her car after a collision on the A23 Brighton Road, Salfords.

Emergency vehicles were called to the scene at around 10am this morning (Monday) following the accident, which occurred close to Fixings & Powertool Centre.

Gary Walker, one of the store's owners, said: "We heard a noise but everyone was inside the building and didn't see what happened.

"There were quite a few emergency vehicles there."

Horley Fire Service used specialist cutting equipment to free the trapped woman, who was then taken to East Surrey Hospital.

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said: "We were called to the scene at 9.51am to reports of a three vehicle road traffic collision on the A23 Bonehurst Road.

"One patient was long-boarded for their injuries and taken to East Surrey Hospital."

Firefighter Rob Hilton, from Horley Fire Station, said: "When we turned up the ambulance were already there.

"There was a three car accident and one lady was medically trapped - meaning she wasn't trapped by the car but by moving her we could have caused damage to suspected spinal injuries."

The service, which was later joined by a crew from Reigate, took the roof off the car and got the woman out. The whole process took around 20 minutes and required electrical saws and hydraulic cutting equipment.
