Yianni hails 'fantastic' Old Cats after victory
Surrey Three
Old Caterhamians 41
Raynes Park 18
THE head coach of Old Caterhamians has hailed their 41-18 win against Raynes Park as a fantastic result.
Matt Yianni praised his squad after the game, adding that the win was well-deserved and that the result would breed confidence within the squad.
He said: "The result really put a smile on everyone's faces.
"We played some quality rugby and it was a fantastic win for us."
Old Cats took the lead early on, with winger Vinnie Kilner scoring after forward pressure created gaps in the back line in the fourth minute.
Fly-half Hugo Walters then added the extras for a 7-0 lead.
However, Raynes Park hit back one minute later with a penalty and after 22 minutes, the visitors edged in front with a converted try.
Old Cats hit back before half-time though with two tries from second row Matt Wilson, to give the home side a 17-13 lead.
After the break, Old Cats extended their lead with a converted try from Craig Knight, before Raynes Park reduced the arrears with a try of their own on 57 minutes.
It was all Old Cats after that though, with Wilson completing his hat-trick straight from the restart, before Reece Williams added the extras.
Old Cats added two more tries in the last 10 minutes through Luke Woods and Kilner, giving the scoreline a more emphatic look.
And Yianni was delighted to close the gap on their opponents to two points, ahead of the trip to Old Radleian this weekend.
He said: "This result will give us confidence going into the second half of the season and hopefully we can pick up some more points.
"Old Radleian will be a tough game, but we will go into it with a lot more confidence."
