A LEATHERHEAD man will scale Guildford Cathedral for a charity abseil on September 25.

David Vincent will be leaping from the 150ft tower to raise money for the St John Ambulance Community First Responders (CFR).

He was inspired to raise money for the ambulance service having recently joined the Leatherhead division.

He said: "I realised what a difference this wonderful organisation does for you and I, and the great British public in general, particularly in situations where we need it most."

CFRs are volunteers who provide rapid response first aid until an ambulance arrives on the scene.

Since 2006, CFRs in Surrey have attended over 1,900 people, 60 of which experienced a cardiac arrest with 21 being successfully resuscitated.

But to provide a CFR with equipment costs just under £3,000, and training equipment costs over £2,000.

Mr Vincent said: "You can see why raising money for this extremely worthy cause is so vital, and every penny really does make a difference."
