WANDERERS moved up two places into seventh with their third straight victory.

For the first time in eight weeks, manager Marc White was on the touchline after serving a 56-week ban, and he watched his side run out 2-1 winners in a hard-fought contest.

He said: "It was really good to be back out there and nice to be able to give instructions to the team again. Chris Larkins and Justin Skinner have done a really good job and they will continue to do so.

"It was a really good win on Saturday, that's two tough places we've been to and got two good results."

Wanderers gave debuts to two new signings, Martin Beard in defence and Liam Hillson in midfield and both played a part in the victory.

Dorking outplayed their hosts for most of the match and deservedly went ahead on 25 minutes through Kevin Joyce.

The visitors might have gone in front before that, but Kevin Cooper and Craig Duffel both squandered one-on-one opportunities before Joyce struck.

Playing in an unfamiliar forward role, he latched on to a through ball and lashed a shot past the keeper to cap a good first half performance after restricting their hosts to just one long range effort.

Beard and Kevin Burgess struck up a good partnership in the heart of the defence and new boy Beard was unlucky to get his name on the scoresheet at the wrong end on the hour mark.

Dorking were dominating proceedings but a speculative shot from distance ricocheted off Beard, wrong-footing Purkiss in the away goal and flying into the back of the net.

That could have killed Wanderers off, but they showed real battling qualities and a tactical switch, which saw defender Thompson replaced by striker Lee Smith, paid off 10 minutes later.

Smith, still recovering from his injury, scored a stunning solo effort with his first contribution, smashing the ball home from 25 yards.

Despite a bit of pressure from the home side, Wanderers held on for the victory.

White added: "We have got a real good mix of players here, 90 per cent of which are local players and it was a really solid win. I'm really pleased, now we have just got to keep winning games."

Wanderers have a break from league action on Saturday as they travel to Bexhill for the quarter final of the League Cup.
