“A report by Which? has condemned nutritional therapists as putting patients' health at risk by offering dangerous or misleading advice. One therapist reportedly told an undercover researcher to delay radiotherapy treatment for breast cancer and cut out sugar instead, while another researcher was advised not to go to their GP as they 'wouldn't understand'. The report by Which? also noted the expensive consultation sessions were often used to try to sell 'unnecessary' supplements.
Unlike dieticians, nutritional therapists are not regulated and do not need any specific qualifications to set up a practice. Which? is calling for government intervention.
What do you think? Have you ever visited a nutritional therapist, or would you consider doing so? Do you support state or independent regulation of the industry, or do you think self-policing would work?”
