“Three year battle to get lighting repaired near Redhill Station
For the last three years I have attempted everything I know to get the lighting repaired on the path that runs between the railway tunnel from Redstone Hill through to Marketfield Way. Whilst the lights in the section that runs from the car park into the tunnel have been repaired (or replaced) there doesn't seem anyone who will take responsibility for the section from the end of the tunnel to Marketfield way.
I only use this path during winter months (I commute on a motorbike in the Summer) but I am very aware of the problem as this is the third year that I have been trying to do something about the problem. This is a very dangerous path, often overgrown, and would be an ideal place for an attack or mugging to occur. It slopes downhill and is very difficult to see where you are walking.
I've contact Surrey Council on many occasions and last year I finally felt like I was getting somewhere last year. However the lights are actually on land belonging to Network rail and I have been unable to find anyone to take responsibility for these. I wrote to Network Rail again three months ago and getting an automatic reply saying it would be looked into I have had no further responses
As I say I'm happy to expand on this should you be interested in running a story.”
“This decent chap has to do all the leg work to get it looked into. Responsibility is ability to respond. Surrey County Council and Network Rail should be ashamed.”
“I've just been told by Network Rail that they have fixed the problem, albeit temporarily. After they finally responded it only took just under a week to have this looked at and fixed.
The issue was that the cable had been stolen some distance from the lights.
Shame it's only taken three years to fix, but at least I feel justified in continuing to pursue this matter.
