I'll take five-marathon challenge in my stride
Tackling one gruelling marathon is enough for most people to take on in a lifetime, but Nicky Donbavand is pushing her body to its limits by running five marathons in four months to raise money for a children's charity.
The Ashtead resident and trader is approaching the half-way stage in her quest – as she has already completed this year's Tanners and Punchbowl marathons.
Mrs Donbavand, of Overdale, said: "I got into marathon running after I did my first 10 kilometres and half-mile runs and enjoyed them so, for me, it was a natural progression into marathons.
"I applied for the London Marathon ballot thinking I wouldn't get a place for a few years but my first application was successful and I have been running marathons since 2005.
"I have been involved with the Children's Trust for a few years, leading running seminars and sessions for them, and this year they offered me one of their places on the London Marathon.
"However, because I have done a few marathons before I thought I would make it more interesting by running four marathons before the London Marathon."
The next marathons for Mrs Donbavand are the Barcelona Marathon on Sunday, March 7, the Brighton Marathon on April 18 and the London race a week later.
She continued: "I loved Tanners and Punchbowl marathons and I had such a good time on both and felt really confident that I could do all the marathons.
"I cannot wait to tackle the Barcelona Marathon. I have done the Paris and New York races and loved them because there is something really nice about running in another country. You get to see things you probably wouldn't see as a tourist."
Mrs Donbavand, 37, who runs Run to Live, in Barnett Wood Lane, is hoping to raise £2,000 for the trust, which provides care, therapy and education for children with multiple disabilities and complex health needs. She has already raised £700. She added: "It has been really inspiring to hear the stories of some of the runners raising money for the Children's Trust.
"The more time I spend with the trust the more I come to realise the amazing, valuable work they do for the people who so desperately need their help."
