Third loss in a row for sorry Surrey
SURREY slumped to a third straight defeat in the County Championship as they lost by an innings and one run to Gloucestershire.
The Brown Caps never recovered from being bowled out for just 183 on the first day, and after the hosts posted more than 500 it was a case of when, and not if, Chris Adams' side would be defeated.
Speaking after the game cricket manager Adams said: "Needing to score 340 in their second innings to make Gloucestershire bat again, Surrey collapsed to 177-7, but, as was the case against Kent at Canterbury in the previous contest, the tail wagged to good effect.
"The rearguard action in the last couple of games has been great, but we maybe need three of the top six to step up."
Adams added that his sides regular failures with the ball were putting pressure on a batting line-up, that contained Chris Schofield at six.
"We're not bowling sides out," he said after his side were dismissed for 339 in their second innings..
"We know that's putting pressure on people. When you lose your big man in Mark Ramprakash, you need others to step up. We didn't really get that in this game.
"From 102-1 to 183 all out and then the opposition get over five hundred, that's where we lost the game."
Adams claimed that another positive was Alex Tudor's all-round contribution.
"I think Tudor was the pick of our bowlers. He's come back with three games to go, with a bit of a point to prove and fair play to him. I had a great report from the second team game last week.
"I just felt it was time to have another look to see what he's got. I thought he responded really well. I thought his first two spells with the ball were excellent.
"He looks a little bit short of match practice, but that's understandable. He struggled in his third and fourth spells, but again showed that he's an all-round cricketer.
"He hung around today, scored some runs and it was a shame when he got out because we looked as though we were just starting to get on top and you could see one or two Gloucester heads going down."
