A father and daughter ran an "emotional" half marathon in memory of a loved one, killed by cancer.

Malcom and Sarah Mathews raised £2,947 for the Bone Cancer Research Trust after the death of 17-year-old Martin Mathews in April last year.

The pair took part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon on Sunday, along with thousands of runners raising money for worthy causes.

Joggers began in Hyde Park, taking a circuit around London before ending back at the park.

Sarah, 26, said: "It was really important to me to do something in memory of Martin. It was a really good way of celebrating his life."

Malcom, 56, who lives with wife Val, 55, in Ash Close, Merstham, said: "It was a really emotional experience at the end.

"Training with Sarah was really positive as it was something we could both do together."

Martin was diagnosed with the disease while a pupil of the Warwick School, in Redhill. He went on to study at Reigate College and performed with his band White Noise throughout his treatment.

Sarah said: "The day was also about promoting awareness of the disease. It affects teenagers and is often just put down as growing pains, so can go undiagnosed."

The Bone Cancer Research Trust is devoted to promoting research into the causes and treatment of Primary Bone Cancer like Osteosarcoma and Ewing's Sarcoma.
