Banger racers in charity bid to reach Barcelona

< Previous   Next >

Driving 3,200 miles would for most, be a nightmare.

Doing the journey in a car fit for the scrap heap would be out of the question.

Not so for three men who are doing just that to raise money for Cancer Research.

Terry Moore and his friend Chris Allen, 35, are undertaking an epic journey from Calais to Barcelona in a car they bought for under £200 from Ebay.

They will be joined by their Spanish friend Manuel Dell'aquila, 26, who they hope will be able to help them if they get lost on route.

Terry, 29, said: "I do something silly every year for charity so when I saw this event I had to do it.

"I started talking to Chris and he decided to come along with me."

The Barcelona Bangers Rally sets off on September 10 from Calais, through Brittany, the Guarra Mountains and onto Barcelona in just three days.

The three fun-loving fundraisers will be joined by 62 other cars also taking part in the rally.

The boys said they made their car look as old as possible and have painted it with chalk board paint so people can write good luck messages and pledges of donations.

Terry, Chris and Manuel are taking the car to Rykas Café in Boxhill on Sunday 9 August from 10am to raise funds towards their £1,500 target.

Terry said they chose Cancer Research because cancer is something that affects everybody either directly or indirectly so it is a good charity to support.
