Chessington & Hook 0 Cobham 3
COBHAM clawed their way off the foot of the premier division table with an unexpected, and impressive, win at mid-table Chessington & Hook.
The club's youth team had reached the final of the Grant-McLellan Cup in mid-week, and first team boss Ken Reed repaid the youngsters by selecting four of that squad for Saturday's match.
The young Cobham side started well. Knocking the ball about nicely they created the first real chance of the game. Heggarty drove down the line before delivering a dangerous ball across the box, which was met by the Chessington defender's outstretched leg as he turned the ball around the post.
Just after the half hour mark, Cobham's early dominance was finally rewarded as a good passing move ended when Taylor spun his defender band rifled a shot into the bottom left corner.
Just minutes after the opener Cobham grabbed a second as a long throw from Heggarty into the box was attacked by Wilson whose near post flick bounced in the six yard box before being nodded into the bottom corner by 16-year-old Cheeseman.
Determined to hold on to the two goal advantage into the break Cobham kept the ball well. Just before half-time they had a great chance to extend their lead from the penalty spot. Up stepped Wilson but the Chessington keeper produced a good save low to his right. Alcott skied the follow up over the bar.
However, the game was effectively settled just minutes into the second half. Young winger Heggarty was brought down in the box and Rideout took over penalty duties to dispatch into the bottom corner.
Good reactions from McGregor in the Cobham goal kept the out the only real chance the home side created with around 20 minutes remaining.
Cobham were unlucky not to extend their lead as the Chessington number one pulled off two fantastic saves to deny Rideout on two separate occasions.
However, that couldn't dampen Cobham's day as they held on for the points and recorded a first clean sheet in the league this season.
