Councillors to meet highways officials on gritting

Mole Valley's county councillors are set to meet with highways bosses in a bid to reverse the council's decision on grit cuts.

The six county councillors who represent the Mole Valley area are set to meet with Surrey County Council highways officials on Friday February 12.

Cllr Stephen Cooksey, county member for Dorking and Holmwoods, is one of those attending the meeting.

He told the Advertiser: "The intention is to review the changes in the system.

"I have a number of concerns about roads in my division. None of the county councillors in Mole Valley were consulted before the changes were made.

"We hope we can get them to change their minds but it is difficult to know what the outcome will be.

"There are three roads in my area in particular that I think need to be on the primary grit route – these include St Paul's Road West, which leads to the hospital, Chart Lane North, which large lorries use to get to Sainsbury's, and Chart Lane South.

"There were a lot of people in the winter weather who just could not get out."

The Advertiser launched its campaign "Stop the Slip, Give us Grit" earlier this winter when many of Mole Valley's roads were listed as Priority 2 roads for gritting.
