Hewett backs Roy to come good

LLAMA'S skipper Ian Hewett has defended Jason Roy and has told the teenager to keep playing his natural game.

The young batsman made a blistering 28 on Saturday, from just 22 balls, but was caught on the boundary going for his third six.

Eventually Priory lost the game by seven runs, and it could be argued that poor decision up the order had cost them the win.

But Hewett believes Roy's attacking instinct is his asset and has backed him to achieve great things in the game.

He said: "I'm not going to hang anyone for the way they played. If it had come off we would have broken the back of the chase and won easily, so it is a fine balancing act.

"You have to let someone like Jason express themselves. I'm sure he'd be looking to make more runs and he just needs to get that medium.

"But he is going to be a fine player."

Hewett admitted his team were relived when they found out the Sutton result, but said Priory could not keep relying on mistakes from other teams to keep them in the title race.

"I'm more concerned with what we're doing. Unless we keep winning it won't matter what other teams do."
