Leatherhead teenager Dyson produces sparkling century

Surrey Championship

Division Two

Egham 229-9

Leatherhead & Cobham 231-3

FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD Adam Dyson produced one of the best batting performances witnessed in recent years at Fetcham Grove to see Leatherhead & Cobham to a crucial win over Egham.

Dyson scored 104 as Leatherhead chased down Egham's 229-9 after claiming 2-49 with the ball earlier in the day.

Missing many first team regulars, the Tanners won the toss and decided to bowl first. Hoping for a good start, Egham got off to a flyer with Reece punishing any loose deliveries.

The score had reached 81 when Wouretsz took the wicket of Hall caught behind by Joblin.

Fellow opener Reece then followed him back to the pavilion when he was adjudged lbw off the bowling of Brewer for an aggressive 55. LCCC were staring down the barrel of a large total at this stage but they began to drag the game back thanks to Brewer (1-31) and the trio of spinners Dyson (2-49), Cush (3-40) and Lewis Oliver (0-21).

The Egham captain Risk made 65, but once he was out the Leatherhead ran through the tail and Egham finished on 229-9.

In reply, the Tanners opening pair of Cush and Dyson started brightly. They put on 48 for the first wicket before Cush was bowled by Dunn.

Nick French then joined Dyson at the crease and the pair began to build what eventually became to match winning partnership of 126. The had both passed 50, before French was adjudged lbw for 59.

Having achieved his maiden first team half century, Dyson was in no mood to give his wicket away and passed the magical century mark with some textbook strokeplay.

He was finally out for 104 but by that time the game was virtually in the bag. It was left to stand in skipper Brewer (22no) and Gibson (19no) to finish a job well done.

The obvious star of the day was Dyson but the batting team as a whole all did their job.

The team visit Old Emmanuel on Saturday hoping for more of the same to keep their promotion chances alive heading into the second half of the season.
