A plucky two-year-old saved the day when his mother tumbled down the stairs and ripped every ligament in her foot.

Louise Thomson feared she would be stranded for hours after the fall but her quick-thinking son Oliver found his injured mum and rushed to the rescue.

Little Oliver dashed to grab Miss Thomson's mobile phone so she could ring 999. He then found a bag of frozen peas to soothe the pain while they waited for the ambulance.

Miss Thomson, 24, said: "I'm so proud of my brave little boy. If he hadn't been there for me I would be lying on the floor for hours until someone found me.

"I can't believe he was able to be so smart so young. He's only a toddler but he just knew what to do immediately."

The full-time mum, of Victoria Road, Earlswood, was suffering from pancreatitis when she took a terrifying tumble on Monday last week.

She said: "I was just at the top of the stairs when a wave of pain washed over me. I closed my eyes for a second and went to clutch the banister but missed it completely.

"I fell down the whole flight and when I landed at the bottom I was in the worst pain in my whole life. I couldn't move, I was just screaming and crying.

"I knew my phone was upstairs but there was no way I could get to it. My partner, Mark, wasn't due home from work for hours and I thought I would be trapped at the bottom of the stairs in terrible pain."

But luckily her two-year-old came to his mother's rescue.

She said: "I was screaming and Oliver appeared by my side. I managed to gasp to him 'please get mummy's phone, it's upstairs'. I didn't think he would understand but he did and ran up stairs.

"He managed to find it upstairs and bring it to me and I rang Mark, who rang 999 immediately. Then, without asking, Oliver went to the freezer and got out a bag of frozen peas and wrapped them in a tea towel.

"I couldn't believe it. He's only two, I don't know how he knew about frozen food helping the pain. All I can think is he must have seen someone do it before."

Miss Thomson was taken to hospital where she was told she had ripped every ligament in her foot. She is now back home recovering from her injuries.

She said: "Oliver is so pleased with himself now I'm better. He keeps saying to people 'I saved mummy, mummy is happy now'.

"Now I know whatever happens in my life I will always have Oliver looking out for me."
