Merstham Cricket Club chairman stands down

Merstham Cricket Club's Bernard Feist has stepped down as chairman after seven years at the helm.

Feist, a nominee in the Unsung hero category of our Sports Awards, quit the role at the club's AGM and said at the evening he felt that now was the right time, with the club continuing to develop and move forward, for a fresh face with new ideas and direction.

Keith Rivers was elected the new Chairman and takes over the club in a strong position with the club now looking to field six teams over the weekend with entry into the Surrey Trust League planned for this year.

This winter has also seen 10 members take Coaching Course and Sunday saw the first of six new session aimed at developing Juniors at the club.

This is the start of a busy period, with the club set to work in 10 Schools within the Redhill and Merstham area, they are also set to run free coaching session in Memorial park and Cromwell Road during half-term and host three school competitions as well as school fixtures during the season.

The Club is also looking to set up a Disability side and Link with Caterham to help develop Girls Cricket within the area.

Probably the biggest future develop for the club that was shown at the AGM was drawings for the new pavilion that is set to help move the club forward and continue to be a focal point for the community, and a major development to help celebrate the clubs 150 years in 2010.

The club is always open to new members and Winter nets will begin on March 1at St Bedes School, but if you fancy getting back into cricket before then the club has two indoor teams in the local league at Hawthorns School on Wednesday night.
