Merstham enjoy sweet finish at Quality Street

Fullers League

Division Two

Whiteley Village 104

Merstham 107-2

Merstham secured a win with their last home league game of the season against bottom of the table Whiteley Village.

Whiteley captain Terry Pope decided to bat first despite the pitch being damp in places.

Dan Feist and Wasil Mohar didn't let Pope off with his mistake as both bowled consistent lines and picked up wickets at regular intervals, with only Pope showing resistance and holding an end up.

Pope played well and carried his bat with 66 not out but no other batsmen looked comfortable as after the opening spell the spin twins of Rivers and Vincent tucked into the middle order and Shinners finished off the tail.

Feist finished with three wickets, Mohar and Rivers struck twice while Vincent and Shinners both contributed with one apiece.

The target of 104 looked an easy chase with 55 overs to score the runs.

An early blip from Shinners, bowled around his legs for three and Loader far from his fluent best scoring 17 in 20 overs may have given hope to Whiteley Village, but the welcome return of Patel (34no), helped along by the consistent Kyte (37no) finished the game off in style with a flurry of boundaries.
