A turf cutting ceremony on January 4 will mark the start of building the King George V Playing Field sports building.
Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) leader Jean Pearson as well as district councillors, members of the King George V working group and representatives from Surrey Football Association will attend the ceremony.
The event was initially due to be held at 11am but the council has pushed back the time to 12.40pm on Monday in order to accommodate the needs of of the children of North Holmwood Football Club, who will be attending during their school lunch break.
The new facility will provide changing rooms and facilities for North Holmwood FC, other sport groups and social events.
Funding for the £500,000 building was secured in the summer with hopes building work would begin soon after.
A £200,000 grant was awarded by the Football Foundation in July with £300,000 matched by MVDC.
The council said building work had to be pushed back to the new year due to delays in waiting for details from utilities providers.
