Police hunt men after car rampage

Three hooded thieves who targeted cars in Fetcham are being hunted by police.

One car was stolen and three others damaged in The Street in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Robert Cade, of The Street, and the owner of a Ford Escort which was forced open, said: "I heard my neighbour shout out at 3am and these three men scarpered down the road.

"I went back to sleep again and it wasn't until the next morning that I saw they had tried to force my car door open.

"We have lived here for 46 years and we have never had anything like this at all."

Mr Cade, 74, added: "It was a shock to the system, especially for someone my age.

"But it was a good job my neighbour shouted at them because they might have done more damage to it."

A Vauxhall Corsa was stolen in the attack and a Vauxhall Astra had its windows smashed and was pushed across the road at 3am.

A fourth car, a Seat Ibiza stolen in nearby Kennel Lane, is also being linked to the string of incidents.

Sometime between 5.30pm on Friday and 9.40am on Sunday thieves hot-wired the vehicle, which was later found in Knaphill, Woking.

John Tadman, Mole Valley Neighbourhood Inspector, has appealed to residents who may have seen anything suspicious to contact police.

He said: "We are currently investigating the connection between these series of offences. It was clearly a determined attempt to steal a car and if anyone has any information about the three men responsible we would like to hear from them."

Anyone with information is urged to call Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222.
